Every day, thousands of Cameroonians already run real businesses without a real storefront: photographing a wholesaler's products and reposting them to WhatsApp Status, brokering the sale to a contact who wants to buy, taking a cut as the middleman. Others have a real skill — hairdressing, tailoring, catering, cleaning, accounting, legal work, nursing, tutoring — but no professional way to be found beyond word of mouth and a fading Status update.
A WhatsApp Status only reaches people who already have your number. Habitat puts your storefront in front of an entire city — then an entire country.
A real example
A trained accountant who can't find a firm job builds a service profile here and sources clients directly — small businesses in their own community. At 15,000 XAF every two weeks per client, ten clients could mean over 300,000 XAF a month. That's more than most accounting firms would ever pay them — and without a firm ever handing them ten accounts to manage alone.
A family in Douala or Yaoundé looking for a private nurse for their child, or an after-school teacher, can find and verify a real, qualified person here too — not through word of mouth alone.

This is the same logic that made Amazon, eBay and Craigslist work anywhere: a place large enough that whatever you need, someone on it already has it, and whatever you offer, someone on it already wants it. Cameroon has never had that place, built specifically for how Cameroonians already trade.
