Investing in Cameroon from abroad

Many Cameroonians in Europe and North America want to build, rent out property or back a family business at home. Distance is the main risk. These steps help you keep control of your money.

1. Decide what you are investing in

Rental property, land, a shop's stock or a service business each need different checks. Write down the goal, the budget in XAF and who on the ground will act for you.

2. Pick the city, not just the country

Prices and demand differ between Yaoundé, Douala, Buea, Bafoussam, Kribi and smaller towns. Compare listings city by city before you commit.

3. Never pay before you verify

Ask for photos, documents and a visit by someone you trust. For land and houses, ask which title or document exists and have it checked before money moves.

4. Keep records you can see from abroad

Keep every agreement and receipt in writing. Family businesses can record sales, stock and njangi contributions in Xodus Vault so you see the numbers yourself.

5. Use payment options you understand

On Xodus Habitat, check the payment mode shown on each listing. Protected payment applies only when it is offered for that deal; cash deals are between you and the other party.
